Biography

Dr. Jim McKinley is an environmental scientist, hydrogeologist, and engineer with nearly 20 years of work in hydrogeology and environmental engineering. His academic background includes water and wastewater treatment and solid waste management. His professional background includes hydrogeological characterization programs, groundwater modeling, geochemical investigations, and interpretation and analysis of pumping and injection tests. He has worked with most of the major oil sands mines in Canada, compiling and analyzing groundwater chemistry data to determine recharge/discharge zones, evaluating efficacy of dewatering/depressurization systems, and investigating groundwater communication between aquifers and with surface water bodies. He has also developed mine closure plans with a focus on tailings impoundments, acid rock drainage, and hydrocarbon remediation.
